    INTERVENTIONS

Funded by the association's members and partners, our interventions aim to sustainably support the inhabitants of the Sapaga chiefdom through solidarity rather than dependency.

The foundation of the association is to enable the inhabitants of the Sapaga chiefdom to hope for a better future. This is done through a logic of solidarity and not assistance. The active participation of the villagers is required.

Discussions between village residents and association members identified the priority areas of intervention: education, food, health and economic development. These four areas are interconnected and must be addressed together to help the inhabitants of Sapaga and surrounding villages achieve a more dignified quality of life.

    OUR RESULTS

    Child mortality

    • 25 deaths in 2007 • 6 deaths in 2010 • 0 deaths from 2011 onward

Since the creation of the association in April 2007, we have already enabled (outside sponsorship):

    • access to schooling for more than 1,000 children
    • the operation of school canteens in December through the annual delivery of sweet potatoes
    • the construction of a second school in Sapaga to reduce travel and improve schooling access
    • the construction of an association building to facilitate exchanges with schools and parents and serve as a library
    • the construction of a school building in Daghuintoega for the bilingual school
    • the construction of a shelter at Zorbimba school after storm damage
    • the construction of latrines at Sapaga A school
    • school supplies donations and support for vocational training
    • the creation of a school vegetable garden maintained by pupils
    • since 2020: food aid for displaced families, clothing, mats, soap and micro-credit support
    Health project
    PROJECT 1

    HEALTH

The Sapaga Health Center (CSPS), under the responsibility of a senior nurse, two staff members and a midwife, has 3 consultation rooms, 3 hospitalization rooms and a pharmaceutical storage unit. Health conditions remain precarious: malaria, parasitic diseases, gastroenteritis and respiratory diseases affect the population. Child mortality is now very low.

Currently, the State covers healthcare for children up to age 5 and female contraception.

Each year we provide small equipment, dressings, Betadine and medicines to the Health Center and the schools attended by our sponsored children.

We also send many pairs of glasses collected from people who no longer need them, and we finance eye care and surgeries for sponsored children.

Prevention: sponsorship includes a hygiene kit with soap, toothbrush and toothpaste. Sponsors may also finance mosquito nets, buckets, Betadine, compresses and bandages.

    Education project
    PROJECT 2

    EDUCATION

When we arrived in 2007, there were only four schools with around 800 pupils. In 2022, 9 schools host more than 2,000 students who can continue their studies in the middle school built in 2010 and later in high school.

In addition, a nursery school was created for children under 5 years old.

The schooling rate has risen from 25% to more than 60% and continues to improve every year.

It is important that children remain in school up to CM2 and obtain the CEP in order to pursue training and learn a profession.

    Food project
    PROJECT 3

    FOOD

The inhabitants of Sapaga, especially children, suffer from malnutrition. For this reason, we carry out several actions.

We contribute to canteen supplies and food distribution through cereal bags during the lean season in August and rice bags at other times of the year.

    Development project
    PROJECT 4

    DEVELOPMENT

Still following a logic of support rather than dependency, the association has chosen to encourage initiative and the implementation of individual and collective projects.

Providing microcredit to women helps them develop income-generating activities and secure revenue for the whole family.

We also support the construction of a building for soap production, training for several women and the purchase of equipment.

Other projects include buying sheep, goats, donkeys, ploughs and carts, as well as enlarging a water retention basin and creating a vegetable garden.

Be part of the change. Take action now.

Everyone has a place and a role to play in supporting this population in distress by helping them build their future.

Pooling resources helps, day after day, to reduce hardship and move one step closer to a better tomorrow.

You hold in your hands the possibility of helping these children, these women and these men who need you, so do not wait: get involved.

    Thank you for your support

The Baobabs de Sapaga Association has inspired many donors and helped many people understand how children around the world are treated. Baobabs de Sapaga has succeeded in creating immediate and lasting improvements in children’s lives by ensuring they are safe, educated and healthy.
