Les Baobabs de Sapaga
ABOUT
We carry out actions to fight illiteracy and the lack of schooling for children in the village of Sapaga in Burkina Faso.
WHO ARE WE?
We are a small association based in BRAM, in the Aude department near CARCASSONNE.
We carry out actions to fight illiteracy and the lack of schooling for children in the village of Sapaga in Burkina Faso.
Recognized for our commitment on the ground, our ability to adapt to each situation, our collaboration and innovation... our program brings us into the heart of village communities, where we help children and families help themselves.
We work with other organizations, local governments, associations and a variety of local and French partners while maintaining our independence from politics and religious diversity in Burkina Faso.

THE CHIEFDOM
This consists of seven rural villages with around 20,000 inhabitants, located 140 kilometers east of the capital Ouagadougou. These villages have 8 schools, a middle school, a health center, several boreholes, a chapel and a mosque. The inhabitants live in scattered compounds. These compounds are round mud houses. Villagers live self-sufficiently through subsistence farming. Crops mainly include red millet, peanuts, beans, maize and rice. Working tools are rudimentary, mainly hoes and pickaxes. The whole family takes part in agricultural work. Household tasks are reserved for women and young girls. In Sapaga, households have no running water, no electricity, and no waste collection services.
Why choose SAPAGA?
The limited size of the intervention area and Abel YAMEOGO's knowledge of various local stakeholders guided our choice toward the village of Sapaga. This made it possible to establish a relationship of trust with a local team.
OUR VALUES
Each member of our Association (local staff or volunteers in France) shares the belief that through individual actions or teamwork, it is entirely possible to significantly improve the lives of children in Burkina Faso.
Accountability: We take responsibility for using the resources entrusted to us effectively, achieving measurable results, and being accountable to those who support us, our partners... and above all to the children.
Ambition: We ask our members to give their very best and to set high goals, committing themselves with determination to improve the quality of everything undertaken for children.
Collaboration: We value each other's work, highlight our diversity, and work with partners who are the true lever for making "Baobab de Sapaga" stronger and making a difference in children's lives.
Creativity: We keep an open mind toward any new idea that can create long-term change or provide solutions to develop family self-sufficiency and thus offer a better future to all children.
Integrity: We aspire to live our associative life according to high standards, especially by showing respect for culture and, of course, honesty toward everyone. We always act in the best interests of children.
Who created this Association?
The association was born from a meeting driven by a shared desire to support the most vulnerable people, between Jean Pierre SALVAGNAC (now President of the association) and Abel YAMEOGO (Vice President and originally from Burkina Faso). Very quickly, the project of helping populations in distress attracted many people who became members of the association.
